The practice of manager as coach ( <scp>MAC</scp> ): Unequal power relations and their effect on feelings toward the organization

Manager as Coach (MAC) is a concept that relates to managers who actively coach their subordinates improve skills, competence, and performance. The MAC practice popular tool for in organizations; however, there debate about the benefits gained from coaching by MACs theoretical gap regarding effectiveness of this process. purpose study examine different perceptions coached process estimate perceived success In-depth interviews were conducted with 13 9 coachees various organizations Israel. Qualitative content analysis was used analyze interpret data. Basic indicates toward positive, whereas held mixed perceptions. point unequal power relations between coachees. In interpretive analysis, it found affect coachee feelings organization but not coach's feelings. Relying on Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) theory, will be successful only if significantly reduce distances. Therefore, must offer significant training decrease negative consequences diminish distance coachee.
